The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Dixon falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The McCarthy pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Troy Fautanu in Round 1, Pick 23; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Tyler Davis at the 108th overall pick, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jalen McMillan in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Marist Liufau at slot 157 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor itch, scratched.
Jarrian Jones in pick 167 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Grayson Murphy at pick No. 177 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Johnny Dixon at the 232nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
