If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Vikings, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Rosemy-Jacksaint to cover a lot of smaller sins. Every board in the league had Eichenberg lower, and that gap is the story.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 17 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on J.J. McCarthy in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 108th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Kamal Hadden at No. 130 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They jumped the gun on Frank Gore Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint is a better player than the 160th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Jordan Jefferson at pick 165 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Josh Proctor in slot 179, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kenny Logan Jr. at the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Myles Cole in Round 7, Pick 10 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
