Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings bet the future on Maye. The board says D.

Somebody took the Vikings to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.

Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Murphy II pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Guyton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 6
In pick 4 they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 60
Byron Murphy II at No. 52 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 142
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Guyton in Round 5, Pick 21. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Mike Sainristil · DB · rank 156
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in the 161st overall pick. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · BJ Mayes · CB · rank 171
By-the-book stuff, BJ Mayes at the 168th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.21 · Pick 241 · Storm Duck · CB · rank 237
Storm Duck at slot 241 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
