Somebody took the Vikings to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Murphy II pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Guyton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
Byron Murphy II at No. 52 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Guyton in Round 5, Pick 21. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in the 161st overall pick. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
By-the-book stuff, BJ Mayes at the 168th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Storm Duck at slot 241 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
