The phones were a trap the Vikings kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.
Every board in the league had Travis lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
That Walker pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with edge rusher still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a go-to option on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Kalen King slipping to the 52nd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Travis. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Jaheim Bell in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
They took Drake Nugent at par in pick No. 157, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

Taking Devontez Walker in the 168th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Christian Mahogany in Round 6, Pick 4, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Xavier Truss in No. 241; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
