Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Vikings never addressed safety, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Getting Walker where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The McCarthy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 20 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid up for J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Troy Fautanu in the 120th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Devontez Walker slipping to pick 157 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Mike Sainristil is a better player than the 161st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick No. 168 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steve Linton in slot 179 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Zion Nelson in Round 7, Pick 21; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
