The curious call sets the tone. With safety, offensive lineman and other spots still glaring, the Vikings used slot 80 on Mike Sainristil, a cornerback they were not exactly short of.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Sweat to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 18th pick they get a lockdown presence outside. More want than need.
Adonai Mitchell in the 42nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 49, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.

They paid sticker price for Jordan Jefferson in the 179th overall pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
