The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Bo Nix, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They banked enough surplus on McGlothern to cover a lot of smaller sins. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bo Nix. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tykee Smith at No. 108 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in the 128th pick, with Max Melton worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Johnson in slot 148, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in the 163rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They jumped the gun on Ty'Ron Hopper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at Round 6, Pick 4 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Joshua Gray in pick No. 202 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on Sheridan Jones, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 10. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Taking Dwight McGlothern in No. 240 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
