They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop.
They will need Allen to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Franklin pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Braelon Allen in the 130th pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
They paid a round early for Cedric Johnson in slot 148, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Austin Booker in the 160th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Javon Baker at pick No. 179 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Steele Chambers at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Zakhari Franklin slid further than he should have, and No. 241 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It fills a real need, too.
