The rest of the league will want that one back. Dwight McGlothern tumbling to the Vikings in pick 232 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The cost of the All reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, with J.J. McCarthy leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a franchise quarterback, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Leonard Taylor III at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylin Simpson in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Sione Vaki at the 157th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick 167. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Erick All well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brevyn Spann-Ford this early at the 230th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dwight McGlothern in Round 7, Pick 12 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
