The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: Michael Hall Jr., the No. 89 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 4 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Jacobs left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Guyton in No. 42 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Michael Hall Jr. in the 108th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jordan Travis in slot 130 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in pick 148, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylin Simpson at the Round 5 slot is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They went early on Curtis Jacobs in Round 5, Pick 30, and the value did not follow. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Michael Barrett at pick No. 179 squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Daequan Hardy at No. 230 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
