The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a long-term answer under center. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Jalen McMillan in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Xavier Thomas at the 129th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylin Simpson in No. 157 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Fair-plus on Jordan Magee, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tahj Washington at Round 6, Pick 2 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Taylor at the 230th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steele Chambers in No. 232 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
