Start where it matters. The Vikings took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Torrence. They are betting Lovett proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get their quarterback of the future, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
They let Khyree Jackson come to them and pounced at slot 108. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nice patience on Cedric Gray, who had no business lasting to pick No. 129. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Fabien Lovett in the 157th pick, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Grayson Murphy in the 167th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Javion Cohen slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Ro Torrence in No. 230 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board fumbled Isaiah Williams all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
