The Vikings spent real capital to be 75 picks early on Jaylan Ford, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. That Barton pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 20 they get a franchise quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Javon Foster at pick 52 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Jaylan Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 157th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Antwane Wells Jr. reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Malachi Moore was the payoff at No. 168. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
A reach for Jaden Hicks in pick 179; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Steal is underselling it; Chau Smith-Wade at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
