The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They are betting McCarthy proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get the face of the franchise, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Chris Braswell at pick No. 42 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Isaiah Adams in pick 130, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Christian Jones at the 141st overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jordan Travis at No. 156 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Javion Cohen in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ty'Ron Hopper at slot 179 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Zion Tupuola-Fetui went about where he belonged in the 190th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
