The trade table was where it all came apart. The Vikings shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Adding Abdullah Anderson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Hit on Jared Verse and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
Jared Verse at pick No. 11 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in pick 42, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Ray Davis in slot 108; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had Kris Abrams-Draine higher than Round 4, Pick 30, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Sincere Haynesworth went about where he belonged in No. 148. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Layden Robinson in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Zion Tupuola-Fetui at par in pick 165, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah Davis at No. 179 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Sheridan Jones at the 230th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
