The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The cost of the Logue reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That Eichenberg pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
A conviction pick on J.J. McCarthy at No. 11 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Graham Barton at slot 35. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cam Hart at Round 4, Pick 4 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Zak Zinter. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jalyx Hunt at the 129th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than pick No. 157 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Tommy Eichenberg was still sitting there in the 167th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They did well to land Jordan Travis in pick 177, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Zion Logue in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
