Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

Future B-

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Vikings were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. No fireworks, but a solid B.

Sanders has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Adding Dax Hill by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 13
In pick No. 16 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 49
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. McCarthy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 62
A reach for Cooper Beebe in slot 48; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 109
Braelon Allen at the 112th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Max Melton · CB · rank 121
Max Melton in No. 127 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R5.13 · Pick 149 · T.J. Sanders · DT · rank 180
T.J. Sanders at Round 5, Pick 13 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Ajani Cornelius · OL · rank 157
Fair-plus on Ajani Cornelius, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 163
Theo Johnson in the 165th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 178
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Robinson at pick 179, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.19 · Pick 194 · Ricky White · WR · rank 188
Ricky White in No. 194 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Ben Bywater · LB · rank 231
Ben Bywater at Round 7, Pick 13 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.34 · Pick 254 · Isheem Young · S · rank 262
They paid a round early for Isheem Young in the 254th pick, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
