The Vikings ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Abrams-Draine pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at safety, running back and other spots. Tuimoloau falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. More want than need.
JT Tuimoloau slipping to pick 42 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and J.J. McCarthy was the payoff at slot 55. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Fisher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jamari Thrash is a better player than the 122nd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Donovan Jackson in the 123rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A curious use of pick No. 128. Safety, running back and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Kris Abrams-Draine did not.
