The Vikings went off the board in a big way for Dillon Johnson, 38 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They have staked the next five years on J.J. McCarthy, which is the only story that really matters here. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

Johnson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
