After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The Devonshire steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 23 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cam Hart in No. 108. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Beau Brade at the 129th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jalyx Hunt at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
A tidy bit of business in the 167th pick, where Dylan Laube graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Layden Robinson went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 2. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
M.J. Devonshire at pick 230 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Trey Knox in pick No. 232 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Michael Barrett in Round 7, Pick 34, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
