They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Phillips. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
The Ogunbiyi pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 18 they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 28th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. slid further than he should have, and pick No. 49 is lovely value for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
They read the board right and Blake Fisher was the payoff at slot 109. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tommy Eichenberg in the 130th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Sione Vaki in pick 145 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 21. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Justin Rogers at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Aki Ogunbiyi this early at pick No. 179. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Andru Phillips at slot 227 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
