The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: MarShawn Lloyd, the No. 131 name on the board, sitting there at pick 157 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 38 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Ennis Rakestraw Jr., who had no business lasting to slot 45. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
MarShawn Lloyd in the 157th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Value with a capital V on Renardo Green in the 166th pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 6, Pick 4 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tyrone Tracy Jr. reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
