The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Greenfield pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.
They will need Keegan to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Drake Maye in Round 1, Pick 6, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Sedrick Van Pran at the 70th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Maason Smith in pick No. 108 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Trevor Keegan at the 129th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Jared Wiley at No. 157 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach on Khristian Boyd in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tahj Washington in pick 177 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Garret Greenfield was the payoff at slot 230. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Sheridan Jones in the 232nd overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
