Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Vikings spent slot 166 on Jared Wiley, a name most had 39 spots down the list.
For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Turner to cover a lot of smaller sins. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on J.J. McCarthy at Round 2, Pick 10, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Payton Wilson in slot 61 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They went early on Darius Robinson in pick 109, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Cam Hart went about where he belonged in pick No. 130. A minor itch, scratched.
Ben Sinnott at the 145th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Jared Wiley at the 166th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Gabe Hall at slot 179, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 7, Pick 7 with a little surplus value in Brevyn Spann-Ford. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
