After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Rosemy-Jacksaint to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A conviction pick on Javon Foster at pick No. 108 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mason McCormick at No. 129 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Khristian Boyd in the 157th pick, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Jarrian Jones at pick 167 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A real head-scratcher, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the 177th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevin Wallace. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Frank Gore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 12. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
