The Vikings ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Zinter.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 16th pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. More want than need.
A straight-up fair deal on J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 42, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Michael Hall Jr. in No. 81 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Renardo Green went about where he belonged in slot 109. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zak Zinter at the 119th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A curious use of pick 130. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Josh Newton did not.
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 20, where Marist Liufau graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Isaiah Davis slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dwight McGlothern at pick No. 190. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
