Whoever sat across the table from the Vikings should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
Landing Bethune that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Vikings indulged a want in Jackson while a need in tight end and interior defensive lineman stayed open.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in the 42nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick No. 48 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Bucky Irving is a better player than pick 108 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A surprising call. With tight end and interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent the 128th overall pick on Khyree Jackson, a cornerback they were not short of.
Cole Bishop in slot 148 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Batty in No. 163; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
LaDarius Henderson at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Malik Washington at the 179th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 230 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
