Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings robbed the room for Washington. Final grade: D.

Somebody took the Vikings to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Washington at that price is a win they earned. The Vikings paired the rookies with proven help, Justin Fields leading the way.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 22
A clean, defensible pick in No. 25 with a little surplus value in Amarius Mims. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 42
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 64
They read the board right and Devontez Walker was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 83
They paid sticker price for Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in slot 84, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Isaiah Adams · OT · rank 127
A tidy little value on Isaiah Adams in pick 130, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Marcus Harris · DE-EDGE · rank 141
A straight-up fair deal on Marcus Harris at the 137th pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 157
Jordan Travis in slot 168 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Jalyx Hunt · S-EDGE · rank 171
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalyx Hunt in the Round 6 slot. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 167
Kamal Hadden in pick No. 190 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.22 · Pick 197 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 191
Steele Chambers in No. 197 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Tahj Washington · WR · rank 192
You do not let a wide receiver like Tahj Washington reach pick 233 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 240
Kimani Vidal slipping to the 251st overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
