The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Reaching for Lee left real value on the table behind him. On value alone, Turner makes the weekend a net positive.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a long-term answer under center. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They barely believed it either: Dallas Turner still on the board at the Round 2 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in the 109th pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Logan Lee at slot 130, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Fair-plus on Malik Mustapha, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Khristian Boyd at par in pick No. 157, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Javon Baker at the 166th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on Michael Barrett at No. 179 that the board grades a round light. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Trevor Keegan at the 227th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
