The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Bo Nix, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Lassiter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamari Lassiter at No. 42 is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dominick Puni in the 108th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tommy Eichenberg in the 112th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Beau Brade in slot 128. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy little value on Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 148, a step better than break-even. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Layden Robinson at pick 163 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malik Washington in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick No. 179 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on BJ Mayes in No. 230, a genuine coup. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
