The rest of the league had time to spare on Brian Ugwu; the Vikings did not wait, grabbing him 40 spots ahead at Round 6, Pick 4. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Verse value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A clean fit for the roster.
Jared Verse in the 42nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Leonard Taylor III in pick No. 108 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kris Abrams-Draine slipping to pick 129 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tidy bit of business in slot 148, where Kamal Hadden graded well above the range. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
No edge and no loss on Justin Rogers in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Joe Milton III in pick 168 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Brian Ugwu at the 179th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Blake Watson in pick No. 230 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
