The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Steele pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jermaine Burton in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braden Fiske. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Max Melton went about where he belonged in No. 108. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 117 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Theo Johnson at pick 130 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach for Keith Randolph Jr. in the 148th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in slot 160, where Jaylan Ford graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Taking Jordan Travis in Round 5, Pick 29 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kaden Prather in No. 179. The roster fit checks out.
Carson Steele in pick 230 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
