They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop.
The Jean-Baptiste reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Greenfield value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get their quarterback of the future. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 23 they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Maason Smith at pick 108 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dallin Holker at the 129th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalyx Hunt in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Tahj Washington, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Javontae Jean-Baptiste this early at the 177th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Garret Greenfield at No. 230. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Sheridan Jones, who had no business lasting to slot 232. It adds depth where they could use a little.
