Call it larceny. Shemar Turner sat on the board until pick 162, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Reaching for Hunter left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kalen King in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They let Will Shipley come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Justin Rogers at pick No. 127 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Isaiah Adams at pick 149 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let an edge rusher like Shemar Turner reach slot 162 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Ainias Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Theo Johnson at the 179th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Jontrey Hunter in Round 7, Pick 13 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
