If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Vikings, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. The Vikings clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Byron Murphy II at No. 46 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Caelen Carson in pick 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 108 with a little surplus value in Dominick Puni. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on MarShawn Lloyd at Round 4, Pick 30, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the 148th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Joe Milton III in the 160th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Jaylan Ford in pick No. 166, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Trey Knox at the 179th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dylan McMahon at pick No. 230 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
