Boards are made to be trusted, and the Vikings shredded theirs for Jaylan Ford. He came off 42 spots early, and the room will hear about it.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.10 · Pick 42 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 30
They read the board right and Tyler Nubin was the payoff at pick 42. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 88
TreVeyon Henderson in the 65th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 150
Jaylan Ford at the 108th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 135
Mike Sainristil at slot 118 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Shemar Turner · DL-EDGE · rank 137
A reach on Shemar Turner in pick No. 128; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 162
LaDarius Henderson in Round 5, Pick 12 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.18 · Pick 154 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 160
No edge and no loss on Layden Robinson in pick 154; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 179
A premium they did not need to pay, Sam Hartman a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 196
Jase McClellan in the 173rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 233
Matthew Jones at No. 230 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.18 · Pick 238 · Kurtis Rourke · QB · rank 238
They took Kurtis Rourke at par in slot 238, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
