The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will need Sweat to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The Bishop pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a passer to set the clock by. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A conviction pick on T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 42 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Mohamed Kamara at slot 109 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tyrice Knight is a better player than Round 4, Pick 30 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They read the board right and Cole Bishop was the payoff at No. 145. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Keith Randolph Jr. in the 157th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylen Wright in the 166th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy little value on Andru Phillips in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reach on Trey Taylor in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
