There is a lot to like until you notice running back is still a hole. The Texans never got to the one that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
If McMillan pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Colson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Cooper Beebe. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jalen McMillan a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nehemiah Pritchett in the 121st pick is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had Junior Colson higher than Round 4, Pick 24, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Ben Sinnott in slot 158; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid a round early for Zion Nelson in the 240th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Rylie Mills at pick No. 242 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
