The Texans spent real capital to be 47 picks early on Jayson Jones, and the board is going to hold them to it.
However the rest shakes out, Thomas Jr. at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a lockdown presence outside, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
They will replay Brian Thomas Jr. at the 59th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Junior Colson in slot 85 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, James Williams went about where he belonged in pick No. 123. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy little value on Sataoa Laumea in No. 127, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Braelon Allen worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jayson Jones at pick 239 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tanner McLachlan at the 248th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
