The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Xavier Legette, the No. 27 name on the board, sitting there at the 59th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Reaching for Taylor III left real value on the table behind him. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Xavier Legette in slot 59 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Leonard Taylor III at pick 85 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 123rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Sataoa Laumea in pick No. 127 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Braelon Allen was the payoff at the 164th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land Mark Perry in No. 239, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Tanner McLachlan at Round 7, Pick 28 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
