The Texans pounced the moment Joshua Cephus slipped to slot 247, and it is the smartest thing they did all weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They are betting Rouse proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Job largely done: running back settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mike Sainristil at the 90th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid a round early for Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 23, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
James Williams at the 126th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Braelon Allen at pick No. 163. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Walter Rouse at pick 239, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value with a capital V on Joshua Cephus in No. 247, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
