Boards are made to be trusted, and the Texans shredded theirs for DeMonte Capehart. He came off 53 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That Beebe pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in the 58th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Max Melton in pick 123 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A premium they did not need to pay, James Williams a notch or two before his time. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 163 with a little surplus value in Ty'Ron Hopper. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Watson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on DeMonte Capehart at the 247th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
