You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Raiders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. The cost of the Schrader reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick No. 44 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in No. 112. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Cody Schrader in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A wild overpay on Myles Murphy in Round 6, Pick 33, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Tahj Washington was still sitting there in pick 223, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Cornelius Johnson at slot 229 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
