The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Schrader pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Rosengarten to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get the face of the franchise, reach and all. A real need, handled.
They paid a round early for Christian Mahogany in the 87th overall pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Maason Smith at No. 112 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Luke McCaffrey in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Cody Schrader at pick 136, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Roger Rosengarten in the 148th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylan Ford in pick No. 208. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Trevin Wallace in slot 229 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
