Thirty-one other rooms let Kyle McCord slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at pick 143. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Brown reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a featured back. A clean fit for the roster.
Emeka Egbuka in slot 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Tate Ratledge went about where he belonged in pick No. 68. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Sebastian Castro at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kyle McCord in No. 143 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 4, with Jack Nelson worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Jack Kiser was the payoff at pick 213. A minor need, but a need all the same.
CJ West at the 215th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
A reach for Sam Brown in Round 7, Pick 6; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
