After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If Wallace pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The Raiders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They jumped the gun on J.J. McCarthy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach for Kingsley Suamataia in pick 44; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Michael Hall Jr. went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cole Bishop slipping to Round 4, Pick 12 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Trevin Wallace at the 208th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nothing to complain about; Garret Greenfield went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
