You could see the war room lean forward. Ashton Jeanty at the 77th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The cost of the Cypress II reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jalen Milroe is a better player than pick No. 45 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Ashton Jeanty at pick 77 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Antwane Wells Jr. at No. 109 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Fentrell Cypress II in slot 141 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Catalon. A minor itch, scratched.
