The Raiders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tyleik Williams, the No. 26 name on the board, in slot 141. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
The Edwards pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, offensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 14th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A wild overpay on Tez Johnson in No. 45, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Jalen Milroe, who had no business lasting to pick No. 46. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Donovan Edwards at Round 4, Pick 13 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyleik Williams in the 141st pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ja'Corey Brooks at slot 205 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
