The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Jack Westover, 113 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Michael Penix Jr. is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Brade pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and wide receiver is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
Michael Penix Jr. at the 14th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. The roster fit checks out.
Leonard Taylor III at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cam Hart at pick 104 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalyx Hunt. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Beau Brade at pick No. 158 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 6, Pick 9 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Delmar Glaze at pick No. 186 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jack Westover at pick 208 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on LaDarius Henderson in the 229th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
