Some picks age like wine; Josh Proctor at No. 208 will need to, sitting 37 spots clear of his grade. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a passer to set the clock by, though they paid up to get him.
A straight-up fair deal on T.J. Tampa at No. 44, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Christian Haynes at pick No. 77 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid a round early for Tyler Davis in pick 112, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Josh Proctor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
